The Seed Newsletter: February 12, 2023
Dear Christian Temple,
This Sunday is going to be exciting. The Forum will continue the series “Listening to Black Voices” at 9:00 a.m. Worship together will begin at 11:00. The Chili Cook-Off will start right after worship. And, the Parents’ Meeting/Children’s Movie will begin as the Cook-Off winds down. It will be a day!
A special thank you goes out to Cathy and Matt Bloedorn for running with the chili ladle and coordinating our gathering this year. With this being a competition, we would love for you to bring your chili in to register around 10:30. Please click the sign-up link below to let us know what you plan to bring. During worship, two or three secret judges will make their rounds tasting each batch. There will be a people’s choice award so bring some money to vote on your favorite selection.
Once the awards are dished out, Kecia Johnson will gather with the children in the Chapel for a movie. Parents, we ask that you make your way back to the Sanctuary so that we can have a discussion and brainstorming session about the needs and future of our children’s ministry at Christian Temple. Katie and I would like to share some ideas and we are hoping that you will bring your ideas as well. We will take good notes and pass them along to parents who aren’t able to be there in person on Sunday.
I am looking forward to being with you all this Sunday or very soon.
Much love,
John
*We will be holding an in-person service at 11 AM, and also streaming the service live on YouTube. Once the service is over, you will still be able to watch it on YouTube or Facebook at your convenience.

JOIN US FOR THE CHILI COOK-OFF!
This coming Sunday is an exciting day! All are encouraged to join us at the Chili Cook-off in Fellowship Hall, immediately after the worship service. Don't forget to bring some one dollar bills to vote on your favorite chili! If you want to participate by bringing some chili or desserts to the cook-off, then that would be great! Not much of a cook? There are still other opportunities for helping out as well. Please sign-up using the link below:

After the Chili Luncheon, there will be a Parent's Meeting in the church library and a discussion of the exciting ideas and hopes for our growing group of children. During this time, the kids will be in the Chapel Room watching a movie and having some fun while in the care of Kecia Johnson, our education coordinator.
WE ARE SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE!

IN SEARCH OF:
The Circle of Love (Afghan Resettlement Ministry) is working hard to help their families find gainful employment. Doug Kruse, a member of this committee, would like to communicate with professionals employed by McCormick & Company. This company has a very positive reputation, room to grow as an employee, and is nearby the families we are helping to resettle. If you have any professional contacts at McCormick who might be willing to talk about employment opportunities, then please give them Doug's information: douglaslkruse@gmail.com and 840-753-3947. If your contact would prefer to have Doug reach out instead, then feel free to pass along their phone number and/or email to Doug.
Thank you so much for your help in nurturing these families by supporting the Circle of Love- Afghan Resettlement Ministry!

Wednesday Bible Study (9:30 AM), Zoom Sessions Only
https://zoom.us/j/94040874646
Beginning on Wednesday, November 2 and for the next 24 weeks the Wednesday Bible Study group will begin a new study on “Understanding the New Testament.” The course is led by Professor David Brakke, Ph.D. This is a 24 lecture series that takes us behind the scenes to study not only the text of the New Testament, but also the authors and the world in which it was created. The course explores Jewish lives under Roman occupation, reflects on the apocalyptic mood of the first and second centuries A. D., witnesses the early Christians’ evangelism beyond the Jewish communities, and witnesses the birth of a faith that continues to shape our world today.
There is no need to purchase books or course materials, as the WBS coordinator distributes appropriate reading materials and a Zoom link each week for each lecture. Please join us this fall in learning about our Christian faith, its scriptures and authors. If you have questions, please contact Vaughn Ouellette at 410-313-9661 or email: vaughn.ouellette@verizon.net.
